Mid South Refinery and Smelters was a Southern refiner operating out of Mississippi. Their poured bars are classic crude 1970s hand pours — recorded examples come in at odd weights like 9.5, 10.2, and 10.8 oz rather than exact tens. They also made a 10 oz “kit kat” style bar carrying a Mid South Silver Ltd. logo, and at least one big ~23.9 oz poured ingot is known. Survivors are rare on the market.
Hello, I’m hoping that you or someone that frequents this site might be able to give me some information concerning a 100 oz bar of silver bullion that I have from Mid South Smelters. I purchased it about 1984. It has the magnolia flower stamped on it. Does it have any value as a collectible or is worth only whatever silver is going for? What might be the best way to sell it if I chose to do so? Thanks for any help you can give me.

It would certainly command a premium, assuming the condition of the bar and hallmark are strong. Premiums on 100 oz pieces generally are not nearly as high as premiums on smaller 5 to 10 oz and even 25 oz pieces. With that said, there is still a premium and there are small contingent of vintage collectors who love the big boy bars. If I come up with new information, I’m happy to share with you. Just knowing names and locations, estimated dates of business is sometimes all we can come up with.
